ph tester / ph meter meaning

A pH meter / ph tester is an instrument used to measure the acidity or alkalinity of a given solution, it is also known as pH. pH is the unit of measurement that describes the degree of acidity or alkalinity. It is measured on the scale from 0 to 14.

The quantitative statement about the pH value expresses the degree of activity of an acid or a base in relation to the activity of hydrogen ions. The pH of a substance is directly related to the ratio between the concentrations of hydrogen ion [H+] and hydroxyl ion [OH-]. If the concentration of H+ is greater than that of OH-, the material is acidic; that is, the pH is less than 7. If the OH concentration is greater than H+, the material is basic, if the pH is greater than 7. If H+ and OH- ions are present in equal amounts, the material is neutral, with a pH of 7

Acids and bases have free hydrogen and hydroxyl ions. The ratio of hydrogen ions to hydroxyl ions in a given solution is constant for a given set of conditions, one or the other can be determined by knowing the other.

The ZI 9048 has a sturdy, ergonomic body that fits comfortably in your hand and a larger LCD screen that makes it easy to read from any angle. With the latest innovation of an anti-clogging fiber gasket, the ZI 9048 gauges last much longer. Simply pull 1-2 mm (1/8″) of the splicing fiber to completely re-splice.

The ZI 9048 offers a pH range of 0.0 to 14.0 and an accuracy of ±0.1 pH.

This ph tester is manually calibrated at 2 points.

ph Meter uses

pH tester is greatly used in the following industry:

  • Wastewater treatment
  • Aquaculture
  • Food and beverage
  • Pool and spa water
  • Aquariums and fish tanks
  • Research
  • Hydroponics

Operating Procedure / how ph meter measures

  1. Turn on the pH tester by pressing the POWER button on the meter. After turning on the pH meter, the MEAS display and the ATC display appear on the LCD screen.
  2. Then wash the electrodes with distilled water.
  3. Maintain sample temperature at 25 degrees Celsius.
  4. Then dip the electrodes in the sample and shake to obtain a homogeneous sample. Make sure the electrode tip is completely submerged in the sample.
  5. Wait for the reading to stabilize.
  6. When the reading stabilizes, then the READY indicator lights. After that, freeze the reading by pressing the HOLD button, then press the ENTER button to store it.
  7. Now record the pH value and the temperature.
  8. And then finish by washing the electrodes with distilled water and store them with the buffer solution.
