Product Description - CALIFORNIA BEARING RATIO APPARATUS (ASTM VERSION MOULD)
What is California Bearing Ratio Apparatus?
The California Bearing Ratio Apparatus Test (commonly known as the CBR test) is an empirical test developed in California, USA. It determines the relative load-bearing and elongation characteristics under known load-bearing weight of load-bearing floors, support and foundations for the design of roads, sidewalks and lanes. The CBR test is widely used in material selection and subgrade soil control.
The test can be performed in the laboratory on prepared samples or in situ on site. Due to the empirical nature of the test, it only applies to the application for which it was developed: road-based track design.
This load frame is designed to perform routine, California Bearing Ratio , triaxial and unrestricted testing.
The charging system consists of a screw jack with a removable handle. The bottom plate moves up and down. The top bracket is vertically adjustable and has an adapter to attach standard load cells. A mounting bracket for a screen sensor is provided in one of the two columns, and a data acquisition system is included in the kit. Elongation rate: 1.00 and 1.27 mm/min.
Uses of California Bearing Ratio Apparatus
The California Bearing Ratio apparatus (CBR) device test is used to evaluate subgrade, subgrade and base materials as an aid in pavement design. The lab test uses a circular piston to force compacted material into a mold at a constant rate of penetration. The California Bearing Ratio Apparatus(CBR) device test measures the strength of the subgrade and subgrade and road foundation through a penetration test. CBR is expressed as the ratio of unit load on the piston required to penetrate 0.1 in. (2.5 mm) and 0.2 in. (5.1 mm) of test material for the unit load required to penetrate a calculated well-calibrated standard material grind.
Formula for Calculation in California Bearing Ratio Apparatus
California Bearing Ratio = (PT/PS) X 100
Where, PT = Corrected test load corresponding to the chosen penetration from the load penetration curve.
PS = Standard load for the same penetration.
Note: If the initial portion of the curve is concave upwards in the California Bearing Ratio Apparatus, then apply correction by drawing a tangent to the curve at the point of greatest slope and shift the origin. Find and record the correct load reading corresponding to each penetration.
